by the time I climb up

to the roof of my parents’ house

the show is already beginning

it spirals out into fallsville

as the first wrecking ball hits

a pulse of light and sound

a rumble

like drums

but this story doesn't have an end

hannah’s murder never solved

a ghost of memory

not even a story now

told to frighten middle-school

fallsville girls

to stay on the "right side of the tracks"

jeremy janks released after 25 years

a halfway house

then a half-life

another slack, doughy face in a denny's window

perched over a rapidly cooling

cup of coffee

the screaming skull of the 1980s

reduced to flock of seagulls

and thundercats clips on youtube

advertisements for mediocrity

into eternity

a clip of snakeland being destroyed

in 1994 posted there

its destruction coming

far too late

to be of any good to anyone

miles between curbs

manicured, tight

sexy dreams of adolescence

falling asleep with jeans full of cum

drugstore smell of disinfectant

ALTERNATE ENDING FOUR

-Jason. Wake up.-

I sit up, still dreaming, my wife asleep at my side. The teenage Girl sits at the foot of our bed, to the left of me, a strawberry blonde in a black t-shirt under a denim vest. She is scrawny and kind of trashy but she has a very pretty, vulnerable smile. She also has a deep gouge in her forehead and a thin red line dug into her throat where she was strangled.

-Jason. Wake up.-

-What. What do you want.-

-I know you can’t do it.-

I take a moment to measure the gravity of her words. -I really thought I could. I thought, how hard can this be, you know. Found out.-

-Why is it so hard. Is there a part of you that doesn’t want it to end.-

Again, I take my time. -Maybe. But also there’s this other part that feels like...even in the lie of the movie version, giving everything a nice, concise explanation is like...the lie is just too big.-

She smiles sadly, sweetly. –I understand. There are some lies that are too big to tell.-

-I’m sorry.-

-I know you are. You’re forgiven.- She smiles, moves as if to leave, then pauses.

–Take the end. Take the end to tell something else, something true.-

And then she is gone, and something is over, and something else begins.

ALTERNATE ENDING THREE

The gang of kids goes into Snakeland and finds the deformed kid who has been using his dark powers to murder and suicide the kids of Fallsville North. When confronted, he reveals that not only did he cause all 4 suicides with his snake illusion, he possessed Jeremy Janks to kill his family and himself and that to kill Hannah Graeber he possessed Mike Guerassio. Guerassio loses control, admits that he loved Hannah and pursues the deformed kid up to the “midget room” at the top of one of the silos. Guerassio and the deformed kid struggle and the deformed kid uses the snake illusion to cause Guerassio to throw himself off, effectively killing himself. The deformed kid stands at the edge, laughing at the kids below, when the spirits of the dead of Fallsville suddenly appear, reach up and grab him. He screams as they pull him down through a portal that appears in the floor, dragging him to Hell. Hoover states that this will be the end, the “last of the murders...in Snakeland.” Archival footage of the destruction of the real Snakeland plays over the ending credits. FIN

Lightning fills the air, striking the peaks of the grain elevators of Snakeland. An ill wind blows hard across the expanse of Industry Row. A mass of leather jackets, the combined Punks and Heads (Hoover, D-Man, the Kid, Griffin, Guerrasio, etc.) walk forward toward Snakeland. The weird, portentous sounds that open “Hell Awaits” by Slayer begin in the background.

EXTERIOR - SNAKELAND ENTRANCE - NIGHT

EXTERIOR - FALLSVILLE - DAY

This is Fallsville in the 1960s, so everything should be shot through various filters to give shots a fuzzy, prismatic quality like the Woodstock film or an After-School Special about the dangers of LSD. A GIRL and BOY, both disgusting hippies, dance in a field as the boy plays a pan-pipe.

JIM (voice over)

Apparently, there was this girl who lived in Fallsville

back then and she took a lot of acid.

The Girl grins, pushes the pan-pipe Boy to the ground and falls on him.

JIM (v.o.)

And she also did the bone-dance a lot.

CUT TO:

EXTERIOR - FALLSVILLE - NIGHT

Still in the 1960s. The Girl is having a bad, bad trip.

JIM (v.o.)

The story goes that she was already pregnant when

she tried the Owsley Purple Moonbeam, this strain

of LSD that would supposedly give the tripper psychic

powers. Thing was, it didn't give you psychic powers, it

just made really bad things happen in your brain.

It gave a lot of kids birth defects whose moms took it

before they got pregnant.

CUT TO:

INTERIOR - WOMB - NIGHT

A fetus, writhing in the midst of chemical lightning.

JIM (v.o.)

And if you were unlucky enough to actually be in utero

when your mom took it, bad bad things happened to you.

And when the kids popped out…

CUT TO:

INTERIOR - HOSPITAL - DAY

The doctor holds up a hopelessly misshapen baby to the Girl, who screams and hides her face.

CUT TO:

INTERIOR - NEEDLE TRAX - NIGHT

JIM

Well, you get the picture. So the story goes that

this girl took her kid to Snakeland and…tossed him

in the water in the back.

HOOVER

Jesus.

GUERRASIO

That's fucked up.

JIM

That's the 60s for you. The most self-centered, self-congratulatory

decade in the history of decades. (shrugs) If that thing survived,

some sort of dark power kept it alive. And it must be using that

same power source to take out all your classmates. Just

the same way it took out those two workers. (pauses,

looks around) So what do you guys think you want to do?

HOOVER

(exhales) We gotta go in there, into Snakeland. We gotta

find this thing, fight this thing.

GUERRASIO

(scoffs) You guys don't know that place!

You'll fucking fall down a hole and die!

HOOVER

(pissed) Well, what do you suggest, tough guy?

GUERRASIO

(serious) We'll go into Snakeland, but

we'll all go…together.

Hoover nods gravely. Jim smiles.

JIM

Okay then. You guys better all get going

before it gets any later.
