"SNAKELAND MUST BE DESTROYED!": SCENE ELEVEN

* This is a fictionalized account of some shit that actually happened. All the names, locations, etc. have been changed to protect the innocent as well as the guilty. – JG *

EXTERIOR – “SNAKELAND” – DAY

Hoover, D-Man and Griffin walk up to the front gates of “Snakeland”, the abandoned Awl-Grain grain elevators. The iron front gates are obviously industrial, but are also kind of gothic – Snakeland is the Haunted Castle in addition to being an abandoned industrial wonderland of places to party and have sex. Griffin simply pushes the chained gates apart widely enough so that all three of them can slip between and into Snakeland. On the soundtrack, the doomy “Candidate” by Joy Division begins.

INTERIOR – “SNAKELAND” – DAY

Hoover, D-Man and Griffin walk gingerly through the cavernous interior, the individual chutes from each of the nine separate grain elevators hanging above their heads. The three young men walk across the concrete floor, avoiding gaping holes and broken glass. They exchange glances frequently but don’t say anything until they reach the other side.

CUT TO:

EXTERIOR – REAR OF “SNAKELAND” – DAY

Hoover, D-Man and Griffin emerge through a door into the expanse behind Snakeland. There is a huge mural of the devil’s face on the outside wall. There is also a large pond full of dirty rainwater. On the other side of the pond are the railroad tracks where they found Hannah Graeber.

D-MAN

This place is pretty fucking spooky, man.

Griffin looks down.

GRIFFIN

Whoa – look at this.

Griffin picks up a copy of “The Satanic Bible” by Anton LaVey off the ground, brushes off the dirt.

HOOVER

Yikes.

Griffin drops the book back onto the ground. Hoover kicks some empty bottles. Suddenly, by the side of the pond, a cat and a rat (nearly as big as the cat) begin spitting and fighting. A train rockets by in the background, blowing its whistle.

HOOVER

Hmm...”Cats and rats have heart attacks...”

Hoover turns back to Griffin and D-Man, who are already almost back in the door.

D-MAN

Holy shit, are you coming?!?

"SNAKELAND MUST BE DESTROYED!": SCENE TEN

INTERIOR – FALLSVILLE NORTH HALLWAY – DAY

The hallway is a hive of activity, kids everywhere, talking excitedly.

HOOVER (v.o.)

As opposed to when Hannah Graeber died, this time

the hallways were abuzz with excitement rather than

sadness. Perhaps it was because Jeremy Janks wasn’t

nearly as popular as Hannah, or because he didn’t fit into

any of the established groups of Heads, Punks, Jocks, etc.

Perhaps it was due to the extremity of the violence. Either

way, the subtle difference was lost on some of us.

The Misery Kid goes running past Hoover, Griffin and D-Man, then screeches to a halt and pulls back.

MISERY KID

Whoa whoa whoa! Holy fucking shit! Did you guys

hear how that crazy fuck offed his whole fucking

family? (looks around) This is awesome.

HOOVER

Yeah, but it’s super weird too. None of the teachers

have said anything, there was no announcement...

just another empty desk...just like Hannah Graeber.

MISERY KID

Wow. Do you always have to be Captain Sadlypants

about everything? He stabbed everyone in his family

then blew himself up in a car. That’s cool as hell.

D-MAN

Ah, you’re just saying that because you’re not

having weird dreams about Snakeland.

GRIFFIN

Wait a minute – what dreams?

HOOVER

(winces) No big deal, really. Me and D-Man both

had essentially the same dream about Hannah

Graeber in Snakeland.

GRIFFIN

(eyes widen) And she...told you a poem? About...

...cats and rats?

HOOVER

(points at Griffin) You too?!

Griffin nods gravely. The Misery Kid sighs.

MISERY KID

Okay, fags. I see girls in need of consoling in the

wake of this great tragedy. See you later.

The Kid leaves. Hoover and D-Man look at Griffin.

HOOVER

Well, that’s certainly coincidental. (pauses)

What do you think we should...do about it?

D-MAN

(shrugs) Do you wanna go check out Snake-

land after school?

Hoover, D-Man and Griffin all look at each other.

"SNAKELAND MUST BE DESTROYED!": SCENE NINE

* This is a fictionalized account of some shit that actually happened. All the names, locations, etc. have been changed to protect the innocent as well as the guilty. – JG *

HOOVER (Voice Over)

It was about two weeks later when Jeremy

Janks, a Senior at Fallsville North, killed

his entire family.

CUT TO:

INTERIOR – JANKS’ HOME – DAY

TRACKING SHOT begins in Mark Janks’ bedroom where he lies dead and bloody on the floor. SHOT CONTINUES as we track out of Mark Janks’ bedroom into the hallway towards the back door where John Janks, Jeremy and Mark’s father, lies, also dead from stabbing. SHOT CONTINUES as we go downstairs to find Marge Janks, Jeremy and Mark’s mother, at the bottom of the stairs, literally covered in blood and lifeless. The CAMERA TRACKS back up the stairs and out towards the garage, where a 1980 Chevrolet roars out and down the driveway. The car speeds off as it hits the street.

CUT TO:

INTERIOR – 1980 CHEVROLET – DAY

JEREMY JANKS, a teenage boy of about 17, is driving very fast down the street. He is crying, and he wipes his eyes with a bloody sleeve which ends up obscuring his vision even more. He tries frantically to clear his vision.

CUT TO:

EXTERIOR – FALLSVILLE STREETS – DAY

A beautifully restored 1968 Ford Mustang is idling at a light. The 1980 Chevrolet comes roaring down the street towards it.

CUT TO:

INTERIOR – FORD MUSTANG – DAY

WILL HAYNES, a 24-year old man in jeans and a t-shirt, looks up into his rear view mirror and sees Jeremy Janks bearing down on him in the Chevrolet.

WILL HAYNES

Whoa!

Will Haynes dives out the driver’s side door.

CUT TO:

EXTERIOR – FALLSVILLE STREETS – DAY

Will Haynes dives out of the Mustang and scrambles for the sidewalk. The 1980 Chevrolet smashes into the back of the stationary Mustang and they both immediately burst into flames. A number of people run up, several of them helping Will Haynes. A woman begins to scream. The police arrive. Jeremy Janks does not leave the burning car; he does not survive.
