"SNAKELAND MUST BE DESTROYED!": SCENE TEN

* This is a fictionalized account of some shit that actually happened. All the names, locations, etc. have been changed to protect the innocent as well as the guilty. – JG *

INTERIOR – FALLSVILLE NORTH HALLWAY – DAY

The hallway is a hive of activity, kids everywhere, talking excitedly.

HOOVER (v.o.)

As opposed to when Hannah Graeber died, this time

the hallways were abuzz with excitement rather than

sadness. Perhaps it was because Jeremy Janks wasn’t

nearly as popular as Hannah, or because he didn’t fit into

any of the established groups of Heads, Punks, Jocks, etc.

Perhaps it was due to the extremity of the violence. Either

way, the subtle difference was lost on some of us.

The Misery Kid goes running past Hoover, Griffin and D-Man, then screeches to a halt and pulls back.

MISERY KID

Whoa whoa whoa! Holy fucking shit! Did you guys

hear how that crazy fuck offed his whole fucking

family? (looks around) This is awesome.

HOOVER

Yeah, but it’s super weird too. None of the teachers

have said anything, there was no announcement...

just another empty desk...just like Hannah Graeber.

MISERY KID

Wow. Do you always have to be Captain Sadlypants

about everything? He stabbed everyone in his family

then blew himself up in a car. That’s cool as hell.

D-MAN

Ah, you’re just saying that because you’re not

having weird dreams about Snakeland.

GRIFFIN

Wait a minute – what dreams?

HOOVER

(winces) No big deal, really. Me and D-Man both

had essentially the same dream about Hannah

Graeber in Snakeland.

GRIFFIN

(eyes widen) And she...told you a poem? About...

...cats and rats?

HOOVER

(points at Griffin) You too?!

Griffin nods gravely. The Misery Kid sighs.

MISERY KID

Okay, fags. I see girls in need of consoling in the

wake of this great tragedy. See you later.

The Kid leaves. Hoover and D-Man look at Griffin.

HOOVER

Well, that’s certainly coincidental. (pauses)

What do you think we should...do about it?

D-MAN

(shrugs) Do you wanna go check out Snake-

land after school?

Hoover, D-Man and Griffin all look at each other.

something about the sounds in this one big J, suddenly got to me. ...the hallway is a hive...HOOVER...Jeremy Janks...
Misery Kid you feel like you love him while at the same time he's really frightening, but then they all have dimension.
the edge of my seat at the end, great!

You got me guessing about this poem and how it ties in to the murders.

I can't wait the see how the characters interact in Snakeland! Snakeland is essentially a pocket of lawlessness (among what ever else Jason assigns it) in a law abiding land. Like in "Heart of Darkness" each character enters with their own morals/ethics but some can turn savage. Who are we when there is no authority to watch over us? Interesting to see who does what and what will be discovered.
